Kantech Access Control Solution with KT-1 Standalone
Johnson Controls announces the immediate availability of the innovative Kantech KT-1 single door controller with embedded simplified access control software for one door systems. KT-1 Standalone is the ideal choice for a cost-effective, easy-to-use, single-door application. With KT-1’s new Standalone Mode, using a dedicated web browser, the KT-1 Ethernet-ready single door controller can be controlled and managed via simple and intuitive web based software. EntraPass software is not required. This makes the KT-1 a viable option for small businesses and individuals with basic access control needs such as being able to assign card access and run reports. “Full-fledged security management can be daunting for small businesses,” said Rajeev Dubey, Director of Distribution Access Control Product Management, Building Technologies & Solutions, Johnson Controls, “But KT-1 Standalone removes the complexity from that process by giving users a web-based system that brings a greater level of security, while bypassing the investment required for computers and software.” With a simplified and quick installation and no software required, KT-1 Standalone is appealing to a base beyond the traditional access control installer. No additional training is required because there is no software system to learn or special certification needed. The wizard-based platform walks installers through the process in minutes. Users with growing access control needs can migrate to the next level with KantechEntraPass or hattrix software.
Child Safety & Security for Gated Premises
MyGate, an intelligent security solution for gated premises, has introduced a new safety feature for children safety in gated communities. The new feature provides real-time information to the parents when their children step outside the main gate of their gated premises. As working parents, the primary reason for anyone to rent or buy a house in a gated community is safety and security of their loved ones. myGate’s children safety feature helps parents give approval and be aware of the movement of their children when they step out, unaccompanied by the parents. This would also apply when a child goes out with a designated caretaker. A security guard may or may not connect to the parents every time the child steps out alone or with the support staff. Most communities do not have a EPBX systems deployed, and/ or the parents are generally unavailable at the receiving end to attend calls. This process often goes disastrous. myGate’s latest feature helps there and instantly notifies parents on the myGate app., and appropriate action can be taken. Launched in late 2016, the startup aims to revolutionise the safety and security of gated communities by automating and digitizing manual tasks at various entry and exit points of the premises. myGate has been installed in over 60,000 flats/ villas in Bengaluru within various popular gated communities such as Adarsh Palm Retreat Villas, Purva Riviera, Prestige St. Johns, Mantri Tranquil, Sobha properties, Salarpuria properties and many more, and more than 2000 guards are using it. The company is operational in Bengaluru with plans to expand to Hyderabad and other cities over the next 12 months. myGate is built on strong Behavioral Intelligence Augmented Authentication (BIAA) technology. Some of the product features include e-intercom (automatic visitor authentication, staff attendance, infrastructure-free vehicle management), resident identification, clubhouse access management, intelligent management reporting, alerts etc. myGate can be deployed in less than a week without any investment in hardware or any capital expenditure. The security device is provided in a pay as you go pricing model. The startup also provides and manages the training of facility staff, security guards and building association members. The solution can be deployed in a multi-tiered system where there are multiple security checkpoints viz., at the main gate and at the building/ tower gate. myGate also helps manage visitor car parking easily without compromising on the space reserved for other residents. The app is easy to use and is hassle free for residents including senior citizens and children. Some of the key functions are designed to be used in the absence of a mobile or a smartphone which makes it affordable and pervasive. “There’s nothing more important than the safety and security of our children when they’re away from home. Even in the most advanced gated communities, most of the management system is still handled manually with either log books or intercom in place. We are bringing the power of mobile and deep tech into apartment security systems. We understand the complexities around gate management and the skill levels of guards and to have designed the entire solution for an easy adoption by the security at the gate. Our goal is to solve end-to-end security issues with an intelligent app based solution at a negligible cost,” said Vijay Arisetty, CEO & Co-founder, myGate.
Intersec 2018 Boosts Demand for Latest PPE
A pair of augmented reality safety glasses and cooling apparel designed specifically for hot Middle East climes are examples of the latest Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) on display at Intersec 2018 that will ensure the safety and health of regional workers. Italian safety equipment manufacturer Univet will introduce its VisionAR Smart Glasses, which integrate Sony’s holographic waveguide technology into eye protection, allowing wearers to view real time data without looking away from what they’re doing. The 2017 Red Dot Award goggles display data on a holographic screen behind the right protective lens. The screen is clear so the wearer can see through it, while data on computers, tablets, and smartphones, can be accessed via WiFi or Bluetooth. Paola Portesi, CEO of Univet, said its VisionAR Smart Glasses are ideal for applications that require eye protection while processing large amounts of real time data including in logistics and warehousing, manufacturing, rescue operations, medical, or oil & gas. “For example, a warehouse worker might view packing and shipping lists, a doctor the patient’s vital signs, a factory worker assembly instructions, or a rescue officer text notifications from partner units,” said Portesi, “VisionAR improves the operator’s performance, while never forgetting maximum eye protection and safety.” The Indian manufacturer will launch its Cooling Apparel line comprising three technologies; Dry Evaporative Cooling, Hydra Evaporative Cooling and PCM (phase change material) oriented Cooling. Vikas Kumar Maan, CEO of Cool Magic said, “Its cooling apparel is ideal for the hottest Middle East climates. The Middle East has the highest ambient temperatures for the majority of the year, and commuters, labourers, or sports teams are at risk of heat related illnesses.” “Our cooling apparels and accessories are the perfect solution to prevent heat stress. Our technology is simple to use; it requires water to soak the product and thereby with slow evaporation of water, the wearer feels comfortable with natural cooling. It’s medically approved and cost effective. The technology not only helps users feel comfortable and safe, but also results in higher productivity rates thereby helping businesses,” added Maan.

Matrix Secures Hinduja Hospital
Increases everyday efficiency with Matrix video surveillance solution Hinduja hospital is an ultramodern, multi-speciality tertiary care hospital with a Medical Research Centre (MRC) in collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Boston, USA. The hospital has an inpatient capacity of 342 beds, inclusive of 53 critical care beds in different specialities. It was the first multi-disciplinary tertiary care hospital to have been awarded the prestigious ISO 9002 certification from KEMA of Netherlands for quality management system. Challenges Hinduja was in use of Axis video surveillance systems which they wanted to upgrade to the latest technology surveillance solution without having to replace the existing cameras, to save investments. For centralized monitoring of multiple cameras from different devices, their existing system used a dedicated server which was complex to manage. Hence, they required a solution, which could eliminate the need of this dedicated server. Besides, they required to store camera recordings for three months as an evidential proof for audit and investigation, which the existing system could do at very high storage costs. Matrix offerings In the first instance, Matrix with the help of its intensive R&D team, was able to successfully add all of Hinduja’s existing Axis cameras to Matrix NVRs. Cascading feature of Matrix NVRs helped them connect all NVRs in a master-slave architecture which enabled centrally monitoring all 73 cameras from different NVRs, without any server. In order to address their storage requirement, Matrix provided features like adaptive recording and camera-wise recording retention, which helped in reducing storage requirement by 50% without compromising on video quality. With the help of this, Hinduja hospital stored camera recordings for three months without investing in additional storage drives. Due to the large number of patients and visitors, Hinduja is now keen on installing intelligent video analytics (IVA) like license plate recognition (LPR) and trip wire of Matrix video surveillance to get real-time security and reports.

The inaugural ceremony took place in the presence of SudhakarPrabhuRathod, Director, Directorate Industrial Safety & Health, the Department of Labour, Government of Maharashtra; Santosh Warrik, CFO & Advisor, MIDC, Government of Maharashtra; Arvind Mandke, Chief Fire Officer, CIDCO, Government of Maharashtra; Pankaj Jain, Group Director, UBM India Pvt. Ltd., and Yogesh Mudras, Managing Director, UBM India, amidst an august industry gathering. Speaking at the inauguration Yogesh Mudras said, “As a big chunk of the population belongs to the working age group, organisations need to look at the safety and health along with emotional well-being of these employees on priority to retain the best of talent and ensure good productivity. Companies in manufacturing and allied sectors such as automobile, oil and gas, construction etc., are becoming aware of occupational hazards and are working towards creating a safer working environment. Governments for their part are through regulations emphasising on developing infrastructure and providing resources centred around workplace safety, coupled with increasing global investments. Despite a greater focus on occupational safety and health, there is still inadequate education at various levels and public awareness is still absent, as managements and workforce don’t always place safety as a top priority. Although, many organisations have taken the initiative to organize training sessions to create awareness, a concentrated and cohesive strategy is clearly not in place. UBM India’s OSH India is geared to filling this vital gap.” “Also, this year we are glad to have a gender sensitive approach to safety and health as one of the topics at the conference seminar. A broad stratagem for the enhancement of women workers’ safety and health has to be built with an increasing number of women at the workplace, enhancing productivity and breaking the glass ceiling,” he further added. The expo was supported by DISH (Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health) – Maharashtra, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu; Gujarat Safety Council; Indian Technical Textile Association; Taloja Industrial Association; Thane Manufacturer Association and Indian Society of Ergonomics. OSH India 2017 also witnessed the ‘OSH India Safety Awards 2017’ on the evening of day 1 which was open to Indian operating businesses, organizations, alliances and individuals in the public or private sector with a workplace health and safety initiative. This year, OSH Awards received a total of 120 nominations from across industry verticals.
