2017 witnessed various ups and downs across business communities in India, including Private Security Industry, in pursuance of multiple reforming policy and regulatory initiatives taken by the Government of India. While calls for Make in India, Digital India and Skill India, Safe City and Smart Cities, and other critical infrastructure development projects have opened far-reaching opportunities for the industry to flourish, demonetization and implementation of GST have been ordered to keep a hold on the unaccounted transactions, corruption, and other malpractices during business deals. The private security industry is one of the fastest growing business of the country which has been growing at the rate of more that 20% in recent past, much higher than the global growth rate, and various reports suggest that it would continue to grow at the similar rate. When the year is now heading to close, SecurityLink India spoke to some eminent players of the Indian Security Industry to find the actual experiences they have been through. Here are some excerpts: Sanjeev Sehgal, Founder & Managing Director, SPARSH SecurityLink India: About six months on, what is your take on GST and the implementation thereof for you and the security industry at large? Sanjeev Sehgal: Today, there are less complexities when we sell products from one state to the other; now we don’t have to pay multiple taxes like CST, Entry Tax, Octroi etc. This would certainly be helpful in expanding market nationally. Things have become less complicated now. However, the biggest challenge which GST has offered is the payment of GST at the time of removal of stocks from the factory, even in the case of branch transfers. It is adding pressure on working capital requirements, which is always a major issue for manufacturers. GST is turning India into one common market, leading to greater ease of doing business and big savings in logistics costs. SecurityLink India: How has the ‘Make in India’ call impacted you and the entire security industry so far? Sanjeev Sehgal: The ‘Make in India’ initiative gives distributors in security systems a platform to reach out to people through an organized method. Since its launch, the Make in India initiative has started showing results. Increased production outputs and growing FDI into India are seen as a result of the initiative. IP video surveillance and CCTV are quickly becoming the norm in public spaces. With the security industry slated to grow to a INR 80,000 crore industry by the year 2020, the ‘Make in India’ initiative has already given this industry a major boost towards that direction. SecurityLink India: Kindly name and give a brief about the products and solutions that you floated during 2017. Sanjeev Sehgal: The security market is experiencing an upward trend in upcoming technologies. We at Sparsh have successfully introduced contemporary trends in the surveillance market with Cloud surveillance. We have recently introduced an Indian cloud computing platform, developed indigenously in India. Remote monitoring, Wi-Fi integrated solutions and customized solutions for specific verticals are some of the upcoming technologies in the security solutions market developed by Sparsh. These aid in solutions such as ANPR, critical infrastructure, border security etc. SecurityLink India: Which are the major projects you accomplished this year? Sanjeev Sehgal: This year we have bagged some prestigious projects such as Delhi schools, FCI, CISF etc. SecurityLink India: What are your plans for the new year? Sanjeev Sehgal: In the forthcoming years, we would like to take the idea of ‘Made in India’ and ‘Make in India’ to a global platform as a leading CCTV manufacturer of India. Sparsh as a brand will target Government, Safe City, Smart City and SMB market and which is the large and sizable business opportunity for us. In the Union Budget, there were many provisions for ‘Make in India.’ We are benefited by such initiatives as an indigenous Indian manufacturing company and brand. Smart Home solution will be another area we would be targeting for growth. In the near future we have plans to launch many new products in this space. Robbin Shen, Director, India & SAARC, Dahua Technology SecurityLink India: How would you rate this year for you in terms of business opportunities and procurements in India? Robbin Shen: 2017 has been a successful year for Dahua as our security products and solutions have been well received and accepted in the market for their intrinsic strengths such as high quality, durability, reliability, and the capacity to function in all weather conditions. Thus we can claim it has been an excellent year for us. SecurityLink India: India has jumped 30 places to 100 in the World Bank’s ‘Ease of Doing Business’ Index. What does your wide-ranging experience in security industry suggest? Robbin Shen: The current Government of India has taken a number of industry-friendly measures such as Smart Cities, Safe Cities, Digital India, and recently the implementation of GST. They have certainly made favorable impact on the prospect and ease of doing business environment in the country, albeit, it has yet to go a long way at the regional and local levels. India has enormous potential and it will become a major market for us. SecurityLink India: About six months on, what is your take on GST and the implementation thereof for you and the security industry at large? Robbin Shen: We welcome the GST initiative taken by the Indian Government. It has reduced the prices of many security items from 28 percent to 18 per cent. There are suggestions to reduce the rate further which, if implemented, will be a boon to all the stakeholders from manufacturers to customers. As prices decline affordability increases, and that makes more people to install security devices to safeguard their lives and properties. SecurityLink India: Kindly name and give a brief about the products and solutions that you floated during 2017. Robbin Shen: We have launched a number of security products, solutions and latest technologies – mainly Extended Power over Ethernet Devices or ePoE including network cameras, switches and network recorders….

Bosch Makes the Cities of the Future Smart

Every 16 months, a city crosses the 10 million inhabitant threshold, making it a megacity according to the UN definition. By 2050, more than six billion people worldwide will live in cities, and these cities will need to provide increasing levels of convenience, energy efficiency, safety and security. The evolution of a city into a smart city can meet the needs of megacities and urban spaces. At the recently held Smart City Expo World Congress 2017, Bosch presented solutions and projects for intelligently connected cities designed to bring greater convenience, safety, security, and efficiency to peoples’ lives, while helping at the same time to save energy and operating costs. Bosch is now pressing ahead with beacon projects in 14 different major cities. San Leandro: Smart streetlights In the city of San Leandro, near San Francisco, Bosch has installed smart street lighting. The company equipped some 5,000 streetlights with smart LED lighting and a remote management platform for the system. Thanks to this design, the lights turn on only when they are actually needed, and thus Bosch has helped San Leandro save energy as well as money − up to 7 million euros over the next 15 years. With the help of Bosch sensors, it is also possible to measure and evaluate air quality in the city of around 100,000 people. Smart cameras monitor traffic and can independently divert drivers if there is congestion. Tianjin: Bosch to make the Chinese city smart In June 2017, Bosch signed a strategic partnership agreement with the Chinese seaport of Tianjin. China is planning to establish an international metropolitan region around the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei delta. With more than 15 million inhabitants, Tianjin is an industrial center and a key traffic hub for this zone. The goal shared by Bosch and the city officials is to jointly carry out the ‘Smart Tianjin’ initiative, which aims to convert Tianjin into a smart city. For this project, Bosch draws on expertise it has gained from other smart-city projects already under way. They include urban projects in Singapore, San Francisco, Stuttgart, Berlin, and the Hamburg docks. With sensors, software, and services, Bosch is well positioned as an innovative IoT company to assist China on its journey into the age of smart cities. Bosch will tailor its solutions to the city’s needs. In order to be closer to the client, the company plans to establish a local project office. Bosch smart-city solutions For smart cities, Bosch offers solutions in the areas of mobility, energy, buildings, safety, security, and e-governance – in other words, digital city administration. With regard to mobility, these solutions include environmental monitoring, connected parking, fleet management, e-mobility, and multimodal transport, which is the linking of different modes of transport. When it comes to energy, the range includes virtual power plants, energy-efficient heating, hot-water and air-conditioning systems, as well as energy storage units. The safety and security solutions encompass systems for fire protection, access control, and video surveillance. With smart-hospital solutions, Bosch relieves the burden on both hospital operators and staff when it comes to technical and administrative duties. For residential buildings, Bosch provides smart-home technology and connected household appliances.

Child Safety & Security for Gated Premises

MyGate, an intelligent security solution for gated premises, has introduced a new safety feature for children safety in gated communities. The new feature provides real-time information to the parents when their children step outside the main gate of their gated premises. As working parents, the primary reason for anyone to rent or buy a house in a gated community is safety and security of their loved ones. myGate’s children safety feature helps parents give approval and be aware of the movement of their children when they step out, unaccompanied by the parents. This would also apply when a child goes out with a designated caretaker. A security guard may or may not connect to the parents every time the child steps out alone or with the support staff. Launched in late 2016, the startup aims to revolutionise the safety and security of gated communities by automating and digitizing manual tasks at various entry and exit points of the premises. myGate has been installed in over 60,000 flats/ villas in Bengaluru within various popular gated communities such as Adarsh Palm Retreat Villas, Purva Riviera, Prestige St. Johns, Mantri Tranquil, Sobha properties, Salarpuria properties and many more, and more than 2000 guards are using it. The company is operational in Bengaluru with plans to expand to Hyderabad and other cities over the next 12 months. myGate is built on strong Behavioral Intelligence Augmented Authentication (BIAA) technology. Some of the product features include e-intercom (automatic visitor authentication, staff attendance, infrastructure-free vehicle management), resident identification, clubhouse access management, intelligent management reporting, alerts etc. myGate can be deployed in less than a week without any investment in hardware or any capital expenditure. The security device is provided in a pay as you go pricing model. The startup also provides and manages the training of facility staff, security guards and building association members. The solution can be deployed in a multi-tiered system where there are multiple security checkpoints viz., at the main gate and at the building/ tower gate. myGate also helps manage visitor car parking easily without compromising on the space reserved for other residents. The app is easy to use and is hassle free for residents including senior citizens and children. Some of the key functions are designed to be used in the absence of a mobile or a smartphone which makes it affordable and pervasive. “There’s nothing more important than the safety and security of our children when they’re away from home. Even in the most advanced gated communities, most of the management system is still handled manually with either log books or intercom in place. Intersec 2018 Boosts Demand for Latest PPE

A pair of augmented reality safety glasses and cooling apparel designed specifically for hot Middle East climes are examples of the latest Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) on display at Intersec 2018 that will ensure the safety and health of regional workers. Italian safety equipment manufacturer Univet will introduce its VisionAR Smart Glasses, which integrate Sony’s holographic waveguide technology into eye protection, allowing wearers to view real time data without looking away from what they’re doing. The 2017 Red Dot Award goggles display data on a holographic screen behind the right protective lens. The screen is clear so the wearer can see through it, while data on computers, tablets, and smartphones, can be accessed via WiFi or Bluetooth. Paola Portesi, CEO of Univet, said its VisionAR Smart Glasses are ideal for applications that require eye protection while processing large amounts of real time data including in logistics and warehousing, manufacturing, rescue operations, medical, or oil & gas. “For example, a warehouse worker might view packing and shipping lists, a doctor the patient’s vital signs, a factory worker assembly instructions, or a rescue officer text notifications from partner units,” said Portesi, “VisionAR improves the operator’s performance, while never forgetting maximum eye protection and safety.” The Indian manufacturer will launch its Cooling Apparel line comprising three technologies; Dry Evaporative Cooling, Hydra Evaporative Cooling and PCM (phase change material) oriented Cooling. Vikas Kumar Maan, CEO of Cool Magic said, “Its cooling apparel is ideal for the hottest Middle East climates. Hikvision has participated in the recently held one day seminar organised by Fire & Security Association of India (FSAI) on ‘Fire and Security Technology in Evolution and Latest trends in Hotels’ in Jaipur.
