ODM Educational Group Prioritizes Security for Students with Hikvision’s Smart Video Security Systems

The ODM Educational Group is an emerging education conglomerate headquartered in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. It is founded by Dr. Satyabrata Minaketan. The ODM Educational Group houses multiple institutions like ODM Public School, K-12 CBSE affiliated school, ODM Kids World, a pre-school chain, ODM School of Advanced Learning, test prep institute, Institute of Human Excellence, a skill development academy, Astral Institute of Management, a B-School affiliated to AICTE, and DIGICHAMPS, an e-learning venture. The ODM Educational Group was formally established in the year 2003; however, ODM Public School, its constituent unit, was established way back in 1989. ODM Public School saw its humble beginning with one rented room and five students and a meagre 10 rupees as tuition fees in 1989. ODM Public School then moved to a small campus in Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar, and grew every year by leaps and bounds. Over the span of 30 years, the ODM Educational Group has branched into imparting Education from KG to PG. Education Security Challenges ODM Educational Group’s management wanted to prioritize security by deploying the best-in-class products and solutions in and around every educational institution run by them. The impeccable clarity, backed by security awareness and technology savvy management team had their wish list ready to counter the day to day security challenges faced by their staff and students. “We had identified the security challenges faced by the ODM Educational Group’s institutions. We were looking for a mission critical physical security system that can serve our objective proactively. The brief was very clear from the day one – security, compliance, end-to end solutions and best practices. It was a clear instruction from the management to get the best products and cloud based solutions with zero downtime and system redundancy,” said Swoyan Satyendu, Chief Operating Officer (COO), ODM Educational Foundation. He further added, “Earlier we were not able to know exactly which video security camera is not working properly. Now with facility of remote monitoring and system health check, we were very focused on a zero downtime concept for video security systems as it is quite unprofessional to find a particular video security camera was not working while a particular incident happened in the educational campus. The Hikvision video security systems are meant for real time monitoring and proactive mitigation of risks before the security incidents. A site without security service interruption is now possible due to technology enhancement. To achieve such mission critical goals, redundancy becomes a critical requirement at every level of security infrastructure.” Technology innovations The ODM Educational Group’s management was looking for technology innovations to get solution requirements fulfilled. There was a consensus on having a versatile vendor with multiple systems, technology capability and service support. They were averse to having multiple vendors for their security requirements. Hikvision India Team and SI partner gave an impressive demonstration to ODM’s IT team. Hikvision India team offered a robust solution to address the critical requirements, the effectiveness of the solution for operational safety and security was unmatched. Since education sector is not a profit making sector affordability and sustainability were critical factors. Perfect solution and seamless integration Many advanced security systems were tested, checked and installed as per the plan designed by security experts and consultants in the ODM Group’s various institutions and campuses. Approximately 800 video security cameras and 150 access control terminals were installed, while the installation and integration process is still going on, the final count of video security cameras and access control terminal may be much more. There are three phases in the ODM Educational Group Project. The key installation included video security cameras, CVR, access control terminals, Hik-central video management software and interactive display board, broadcasting and learning system. Hikvision’s interactive display boards and learning and broadcasting system are being installed in ODM Group of institutions. The seamless integration of these solutions was done to ensure students, faculty and staff should be safe and secure. The most important thing in ODM Educational Group’s project was to provide the right solutions through smart integration and management of physical security systems. Providing security to our students and staff is our core responsibility, it is all about making life easier in campuses. Enhancing efficiency The ODM Educational Group’s association with Hikvision’s myriad systems and solutions helped to create a win-win experience. “The group’s management had observed that it is possible to derive tangible benefits out of physical security systems. These access control terminals restrict the entry of unauthorised persons,” said Swoyan Satyendu. He further added, “Learning and broadcasting solution is helpful to teachers, students and the school management. All these video security systems, access control terminals and interactive display boards and learning and broadcasting systems helped enhance the student experience in our campuses.” Advantages The overall productivity and time management has improved due to access control terminals. It also helped in identifying and restricting the unauthorized visitors to the campus. “We are glad that the advanced security solutions provided by Hikvision India, added value to ODM Group’s objective of imparting education in a secure environment. These solutions have worked very well for our requirements. We have got an agile service support from the Hikvision’s service support team and local partners. We are relishing the peace of mind provided by the value added security system by Hikvision. Their products and solutions are truly value for money. We are thankful to the Hikvision India for delivering quality products and excellent service,” said Swoyan Satyendu. With help of Hikvision’s advanced security systems, ODM Educational Group is ensuring a secure environment for its students and staff.

Hikvision Reveals Affordable Security Tech with Six Impressive Safety Upgrades for Small Businesses

Hikvision has announced a ‘security kit’ for small businesses. The kit – featuring ‘cool security technologies’ – makes enterprise security and access control features available to small businesses at an affordable pricepoint, reducing workloads and costs, and speeding up incident responses. Parker Li, Director of Marketing Planning Department at Hikvision said, “This package of savvy technologies is helping small businesses everywhere to maximize their security and reduce related workloads and costs. What’s more, they are giving business owners the freedom to monitor security from anywhere, giving them peace of mind when they can’t be on site.” Key benefits for small businesses Hikvision’s newly launched portfolio of ‘cool security technologies’ offer 6 key benefits for small business owners and managers: Remote access control at all times: This allows business owners or managers to open doors remotely using Hikvision MinMoe face recognition terminal. This allows them to control access for employees, suppliers, and other visitors – from any location, all via a mobile device. Small businesses can also use MinMoe terminal as a cost-effective contact-free time and attendance solution. Automated trespass alarms, with no false positives: It uses AcuSense-enabled cameras to differentiate between people and vehicles and other moving objects like falling leaves or heavy rain. This allows business owners and managers to minimize false alarms to lower costs, and to focus their efforts on responding faster to real security threats. Light and sound alarms to warn off trespassers: Their AcuSense Live-Guard solution uses light and sound alarms to deter trespassers before they enter a business location. Business owners or managers can also record customized audio messages to broadcast over the security cameras to further increase security. Clear, full-color video recording, even in near-total darkness: Hikvision’s ColorVu technology gives small and medium businesses full-color imaging, even down to 0.0005 lux, which is the equivalent of starlight on a moonless night. Full color images provide far more detail, making it easier to identify perpetrators, and increasing the quality of evidence for later use. Simple set-up and management for security cameras and alarms: Their AX PRO series of indoor and outdoor wireless alarm detectors are natively integrated with Hikvision cameras. This pre-integration means that business owners or managers can set up security solutions extremely quickly and easily, and manage them from a single console, with no need for separate systems for alarms and cameras. Mobile security monitoring, wherever you are: By installing Hik-Connect on their mobile devices, business owners and managers can monitor alarms and footage from all connected Hikvision devices in their system. In this way, they can get full access to real-time video feeds, event notifications, and more – whether they are at home, or lying on a beach on vacation.

Hinduja Hospital Strengthens its Security and Increases Everyday Efficiency with Matrix Video Surveillance Solution

Hinduja hospital is an ultramodern, multi-speciality tertiary care hospital with a Medical Research Centre (MRC) in collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Boston, USA. The hospital has an inpatient capacity of 342 beds, inclusive of 53 critical care beds in different specialties. As a tertiary care hospital, the services offered are comprehensive, covering investigation and diagnosis to therapy, surgery and post-operative care. The inpatient services are complemented with a day centre, out-patient facilities and an exclusive centre for health check for executives. Hinduja hospital was the first multi-disciplinary tertiary care hospital to have been awarded the prestigious ISO 9002 certification from KEMA of Netherlands for Quality Management System. Challenges Hinduja had been using video surveillance systems of Axis brand. They wanted to upgrade to the latest technology surveillance solution, without having to replace the existing cameras to protect their investments. For centrally monitoring multiple cameras from different devices, their existing system used a dedicated server. Managing this server was complex and hence they required a solution, which could eliminate the need of this dedicated server. They wanted to store camera recordings of three months as evidential proof in case of an investigation and audit. Their existing system consumed high storage costs for this. Products and Solutions Offered No manufacturer was able to integrate Axis camera models that were being used by Hinduja. Matrix, with the help of its intensive R&D team, successfully added all of Hinduja’s existing Axis cameras to Matrix NVRs. Cascading feature of Matrix NVRs helped them to connect all NVRs in a master-slave architecture. This gave the benefit of centrally monitoring all 73 cameras from different NVRs, without any server. In order to address their storage requirement, Matrix provided features like Adaptive Recording and Camera-wise Recording Retention, which helped in reducing storage requirement by 50% without compromising on video quality. With the help of this, Hinduja hospital stored camera recordings for three months without investing in additional storage drives. Matrix authorized channel partner, Procom Solutions, provided efficient post-sales support with the help of their trained manpower. Results Successful upgrade to latest technology solution without scrapping previous investments. Elimination of dedicated server. Ease of centralized management and monitoring. Reduction in storage cost by 50%. Greater security and employee discipline Also Read:- NSE IT Limited Trusts Matrix Video Management System to Strengthen their Existing Security

More Than Half of Organizations Face Gaps in Their Zero-Trust Implementations According to a Fortinet Survey

Fortinet®, a global company in broad, integrated, and automated cybersecurity solutions, today unveiled the Global State of Zero Trust Report. The survey reveals that while most organizations have a vision of zero trust or are in the process of implementing zero-trust initiatives, more than half of organizations cannot translate this vision into the solutions they are implementing because they lack some basic core fundamentals of zero trust. For a detailed view of the findings and some important takeaways read the blog. Highlights of the report follow: A FortiGuard Labs Threat Landscape Report demonstrated an increase in the volume and sophistication of attacks targeting individuals, organizations, and increasingly critical infrastructure. Organizations are looking for solutions to protect against these evolving threats and zero trust is top of mind, but for multiple reasons. Additionally, the shift to work-from-anywhere has put a spotlight on zero-trust network access (ZTNA) in particular, as organizations need to protect important assets from workers connecting from poorly protected home networks. Confusion over Defining Zero-Trust Strategies The report illustrates some confusion about what comprises a complete zero-trust strategy. Respondents indicated they understand zero trust (77%) and ZTNA (75%) concepts and over 80% reported already having a zero-trust and/ or ZTNA strategy in place or development. Yet, over 50% indicated being unable to implement core zero-trust capabilities. Nearly 60% indicated they do not have the ability to authenticate users and devices on an ongoing basis and 54% struggle to monitor users post-authentication. This gap is concerning because these functions are critical tenets of zero-trust and it brings into question what the actual reality of these implementations is across organizations. Adding to the confusion are the terms ‘Zero Trust Access’ and ‘Zero Trust Network Access,’ which are used sometimes interchangeably. Zero Trust is Top of Mind and Priorities are Varied Priorities for zero trust are ‘minimizing the impact of breaches and intrusions’ followed closely by ‘securing remote access’ and ‘ensuring business or mission continuity.’ ‘Improving user experiences’ and ‘gaining flexibility to provide security anywhere’ were also top priorities. ‘Security across the entire digital attack surface’ was the single most important benefit cited by respondents, followed by a ‘better user experience for remote work (VPN).’ A vast majority of the survey respondents believe that it is vital for zero-trust security solutions to be integrated with their existing infrastructure, work across cloud and on-premises environments, and be secure at the application layer. However, more than 80% of respondents indicated that it is challenging to implement a zero-trust strategy across an extended network. For organizations without a strategy in place or development, obstacles included a lack of skilled resources with 35% of organizations using other IT strategies to address zero trust. “With the evolving threat landscape, transition to work-fromanywhere, and the need to securely manage applications in the cloud, the shift from implicit trust to zero trust is top of mind for organizations. Our survey shows while most organizations have some form of a zero-trust strategy in place, they fall short of a holistic strategy and struggle to implement some core zero-trust security basics. An effective solution requires a cybersecurity mesh platform approach to address all zero-trust fundamentals across the infrastructure, including endpoint, cloud, and onpremises, otherwise the result is a partial, non-integrated solution that lacks broad visibility” Rajesh Maurya Regional Vice President, India & SAARC at Fortinet About the Zero-Trust Report The report is based on a global survey of IT decision-makers aimed at better understanding how far along organizations are in their zero-trust journey. The survey is intended to better understand the following: How well zero trust and ZTNA are understood. The perceived benefits and challenges in implementing a zero-trust strategy. Adoption of and the elements included in a zero-trust strategy The survey was conducted in September 2021 with 472 IT and security leaders from 24 different countries, representing nearly all industries, including the public sector.

Security Leadership Summit 2022

The 16th edition of the Security Leadership Summit organized by Central Association of Private Security Industry (CAPSI) was held at the NDMC Convention Centre, Sansad Marg, New Delhi on 17th December 2021. This years’ Summit was organized in a hybrid manner with physical presence of over 250 industry leaders from across the country. Eminent politicians, bureaucrats and public figures shared their thought process with respect to the growth and well-being of the industry. Apart from them, the conference was also attended by the senior officials and students of the private security management course being conducted by Sardar Patel University of Police Security and Criminal Justice (SPUP) to understand the functioning of private security industry. Over 150 security guards who are the frontline soldiers of various private security agencies also attended the Summit. All the members of CAPSI were able to view the entire proceeding sitting at their respective states and were able to even participate through zoom platform. The highlight of the event was the participation of the Chief Guest Gen (Dr) VK Singh MoS Road, Transport and Highways at the inaugural session. Traditional practice of the lighting of the lamp was followed wherein the dignitaries on the dais lead by Gen (Dr) VK Singh lit the auspicious lamp followed by distribution of Badge of Honour to the Frontline warriors of the industry for their exemplary courage during the pandemic. The summit was also graced by Udai Mahurkar, Information Commissioner of India; Anurag Batra, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief, Business World Magazine; Prakash Mirani, Additional CEO, GEM; and Advocate SK Gupta as Guest of Honour. Audio Visual on Private Security Day Celebrations – 4th December An audio visual on Private Security Day celebrations was showcased after the inaugural session. Addressing the Summit, Chairman Kunwar Vikram Singh highlighted that to recognise the role of private security industry and private security guards in the nation-building process, particularly in the times of national emergency and crisis, the Central Association of Private Security Industry (CAPSI) decided to celebrate December 4 as the ‘Private Security Day.’ He informed the Chief Guest that ‘Private Security Day’ was also celebrated internationally as all the leading global organisations and companies agreed to the CAPSI proposal. “December 4 is a special day for the entire private security industry in India and across the world as it was on this day that the former President Smt Pratibha Patil had inaugurated the CAPSI’s Annual Security Leadership Summit in 2009. It was the first-ever occasion across the world when a Head of the State had inaugurated the annual summit of the private security industry in any country,” said Mr Singh, “It is also a solemn occasion for us to honour the contributions of the private security industry during the Covid-19 pandemic which created havoc in India and across the world. We paid tributes to our brave private security personnel who died while serving humanity during the pandemic. A number of events were planned to commemorate the day. Certificates and prizes to recognise the services of the deserving security personnel were awarded. Associates of CAPSI across the globe also celebrated the day which speaks volumes of solidarity of security sector fraternity.” The Chairman further said as the country’s economy was badly affected, many private security establishments were also forced to close down due to the slowdown of business, thereby resulting in loss of jobs for the employees. The private security industry was able to withstand the onslaught of the Covid tsunami and continued to provide services to the end users. The performance of the private security industry during the COVID pandemic, especially during the lockdown phase, was outstanding. The fact that the industry was recognised as an ‘essential service’ by the government authorities speaks volumes of faith and trust the Government of India reposes on the industry. The security personnel faced a lot of problems during that time when public transport and other amenities which we take for granted was not available. Most importantly, the fear of contracting the deadly virus as they were vulnerable was also there. Despite that the security guard, undaunted by the difficulties posed did manage to reach his place of duty and performed his tasks admirably. Now was the time to appreciate their role and the professional commitment exhibited at that time. Keeping in view the spirit, ‘Private Security Day’ was celebrated in all parts of country by all state chapters of CAPSI. He said that with the dedication and devotion with which our comrades celebrated this day, there was hardly any city or town where it would not have been celebrated. Addressing the Summit, Chairman Kunwar Vikram Singh also lamented the government proposal to downgrade private security industry from skilled to semiskilled category as it will hurt employability of over 1 lakh private security guards currently working in the industry. He urged the government to reconsider it. He also said increasing mandatory training period for private security guards from 160 hours to 400 hours was not feasible as there are no paraphernalia available to conduct such training programmes. Private Security Sector to Employ more Women in Times to Come Addressing the Security Leadership Summit-2021, Gen (Dr) V K Singh said the Indian private security industry needs to evolve itself by employing more women and maximising use of technology in order to survive and excel. He said, in times to come it will be difficult to provide security and ensure safety without the use of technology. Similarly, need of security is growing across sectors, and here women can play a major role in providing security to various businesses and industry including markets, saloons, highways schools and institutions and companies etc. Their role and involvement is key to the growth of the private security industry, Gen VK Singh added. The Union Minister also stressed the need for better training to provide better security, and here too technology will play a major role. Terrorists and anti-social elements are using technology to commit crime, so the private security industry will also have…

Onboard Video Systems can Increase Vehicle and Road Safety

Every year, a large number of traffic incidents and crashes occur worldwide. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 1.3 million people die each year as a result of road traffic crashes. There are many factors leading to this – road infrastructure, road users, vehicle speeds, and vehicle safety. Another of these is fatigue and drowsiness at the wheel, which could result in a dangerous situation that jeopardizes the safety of driver, passengers, and even pedestrians. According to The Euro Weekly News, the fatigue detection system and other driver assistance system will be mandatory in new cars in 2022, as it says the vast majority of road accidents are caused by human error. So much so, it is critical that actions to improve vehicle safety are taken to promote safe transport for all road users. How a video-based onboard security system can help As a leading IoT solution provider with video as its core competency, Hikvision designed and developed its Mobile Onboard Video System to boost vehicle security in comprehensive ways. These range from reliable footage recording and route deviation or speeding alarms, to emergency alarms and abnormal driving behavior analysis. The system offers 360° video coverage both inside and outside a vehicle, providing real-time situational awareness for safe driving. Video footage is reliably transmitted and stored, which can be used as forensic evidence in the event of a traffic accident. It also generates insights such as passenger flow in a public bus, for example, so that passenger distribution can be optimized to improve their comfort. Protecting a range of road vehicles Hikvision’s Onboard Video Security System ensures that typical types of vehicle are well protected, including public buses, school buses, trucks, taxis, and ride-hailing cars. Public buses Buses play an important role in urban transportation. For many people, they provide an indispensable method for their daily commute. Accordingly, the operational efficiency of the bus fleet, its services, and public safety demonstrate new challenges for public transport authorities. Hikvision understands those challenges, and has developed its Bus Solution with two important features. Firstly, passenger flow counting, based on video analytics, allows bus drivers to know the actual number of passengers inside in real time. This is helpful when certain compliance requirements such as social distancing is introduced. If passenger flow exceeds a pre-defined number, an alert can be sent to the operation center for better bus fleet scheduling. This help them to improve service quality and passenger satisfaction. Another feature is abnormal driving behavior detection, which can pick up driver fatigue, as well as smoking in the bus. If these incidents are detected, an alert is sent to the monitoring center in real time, allowing operators to communicate with drivers immediately via two-way audio. School buses School buses can carry 40 or more students to and from school. As such, operators want to take extra care of this precious cargo. Is the school bus on its usual route? Did a student board the bus on time and get off at the right stop? For school administrators and parents, these matters can be critical. Hikvision’s School Bus Solution offers innovative onboard attendance capabilities. When students get on the bus, they can swipe their ID card on a terminal and the record is uploaded to the system’s central platform right away. At the same time, a notification can be pushed to parents’ mobile phones, informing them that their child is safely on the bus. It’s also important to protect students when they get off the school bus and cross the road. The solution includes a ‘stop for school bus’ sign with an audible and visual flash warning. This works to notify passing vehicles to stop until students safely cross a street. Trucks Trucks transport a wide range of goods and materials, ranging from our daily necessities to luxury products. Therefore, it is important for logistics companies to know the real-time status of their truck fleet, whether they transit goods on time, and arrive at the destinations safely etc. Hikvision’s Truck Solution collects audio and video data with cameras installed inside and outside the truck. It sends GPS and alarm data through onboard video recorders and 3G/ 4G wireless networks, to realize remote truck monitoring and management. Due to their size, trucks have large blind spots on both sides. Vehicles located in these blind spots are difficult to see and can easily go unnoticed by the driver. Hikvision’s Truck Solution offers camera views that cover these blind spots, so truck drivers know about vehicles entering into these areas. This helps them to drive safely and promotes road safety. Hikvision’s solution further provides different kinds of sensors for bespoke needs on a truck. For example, if a truck transports valuable goods that are not allowed to be checked during the journey, a door sensor can be added to record if anyone opens it before arrival. In some cases, if a truck transports cold food, the temperature inside must be maintained at a stable level to ensure freshness. Accordingly, customers can include a temperature sensor in the system to monitor the temperature change. Taxis and ride-hailing cars As mobility improves in urban life, many people use mobile apps to get a ride, either with a taxi or a ride-hailing car. It’s convenient and fast. On the other hand, it’s also important to maintain rider safety from the start of the journey until they reach their destination. In busy periods, for example rush hours and holiday seasons, taxi and ride-hailing drivers struggle to take a break and they usually work long hours. In this situation, it’s very easy to get tired which could also cause health issues. Hikvision’s solution for taxis and ride-hailing cars includes abnormal driving behavior analysis, such as driving while drowsy. In that case, drivers can be reminded to pull over and take a rest. Hikvision’s solution also provides a trunk camera that records footage if a passenger’s luggage or handbag was left behind after departure, or stolen by others. From…
