Cellebrite Empowers Lake Jackson Police Department with Agile Digital Intelligence Platform

Cellebrite DI Ltd. a global company in Digital Intelligence (DI) solutions for the public and private sectors, recently announced their collaborative work with the Lake Jackson Police Department. Big cases solved by large agencies with lots of resources may grab more headlines, but most communities depend on smaller police forces to do the hard work of keeping communities safe with just a handful of officers. Detective Sergeant (DS) Christopher Collins, of the Lake Jackson Police Department in Lake Jackson, TX, understands what it means to be the only digital examiner in a department. He is literally a one-man band. Not surprisingly, DS Collins faces a number of challenges that those in small departments know all too well: multiple roles, budget constraints, outdated equipment, too many devices, and slow USB speeds. In the two years, he’s been in his present position, DS Collins has learned how to use technology as a force multiplier to modernize his workflow and get the information his investigators need to move cases forward as quickly as possible. Right now, he is utilizing Cellebrite UFED 4PC, Cellebrite Physical Analyzer, and Cellebrite UFED Cloud. DS Collins has high praise for the solutions he is using. UFED 4PC… makes it extremely easy to run through a phone extraction and capture of evidence. With the on-screen instructions… there’s almost no question on what to do because it gives you the steps to follow.” “Running it [data] through Physical Analyzer presents everything that you’ve captured and parsed through on the screen. It gives you that extraction summary screen, and I love that screen. It shows you what extractions have been completed or included in the report, and it breaks down photos, videos, text messages, instant messages, and device locations…. The workflow is a lot easier to work through on that.” “Another thing (I like about) Cellebrite UFED Cloud is the public-facing cloud and social media profiles that Cellebrite UFED Cloud is able to capture. By putting in a URL or a username, it captures the public-facing images. Using Cellebrite UFED Cloud’s feature to do that sounds way more forensically sound.” When asked what advice he had for officers, like himself, who are flying solo in their departments on how to use digital technology to better serve their communities and close the public-safety gap, here’s what DS Collins had to say. Train Up: Take up as much free training as you can. Reach out. If your department is part of the ICAC task force, go through ICAC training. They have a ton of resources for training that are free or very low-cost. Get Cellebrite Trained: As DS Collins explained, “This was one of the best courses I’ve had. And the person who trained me, my instructor for my CCO and CCPA, actually pushed me to get my CCME because he saw how well I was performing in that class. He was a fantastic instructor.” Find Funding: While there are federal funds available, DS Collins recommends that those seeking funds to transform their department shouldn’t focus strictly on federal grants. Set Standard Operating Procedures: DS Collins is in the process of building a mandatory mobile device evidence collection course for basic-level patrol officers and even detectives because they need to be able to know how to handle devices collected at a crime scene. When asked what gets him out of bed every morning and do his job, DS Collins paused for a moment then said, “In the simplest terms, it’s justice for the victims. And the help that it will give those victims in restoring a normal life is insurmountable. That’s the main thing that drives me, is to protect the children.” Zach Cohen, Vice President of State and Local Sales at Cellebrite, commented, “Detective Sergeant Chris Collins is a prime example of how a single, driven individual can introduce new technology to agencies, no matter the size. His efforts to educate other team members and dedication to training demonstrate an attitude that all analysts and investigators should emulate.”

ParkMate has secured an undisclosed funding facilitated through EvolveX, Global accelerator programme by We Founder Circle. WFC has partnered with several strategic angels to help the start-up rise to market challenges while also gaining a competitive advantage over other players. ParkMate parking solution eliminates the need to find or even visit a parking lot. With ParkMate, the attendants are OTP verified and the cars are GPS-tagged so that users can track the car’s live movement. When the customer needs his car, he/ she simply has to click on ‘Get my car’ and we have it delivered wherever they want. Azena Expands Smart Camera Platform with New Integration Options, Enhanced Device and Project Management

Azena has announced upgrades to its open platform for smart cameras that offer new integration capabilities for smart cameras into existing video surveillance systems and tools for more efficient device management for systems integrators. With this deeper functionality, integrators using the Azena platform and the AI-enabled video analytics from the Azena Application Store, have wider control over large groups of devices, apps, and configurations running on their customers’ smart cameras with the Azena Operating System. The new integration capabilities make it simpler for the integrator to configure and deploy smart cameras using specialized analytics – which produce unique events – into a customer’s existing video surveillance system. Metadata from these specialized analytics, such as weapons detection, tank level monitoring, or flood detection, are automatically converted into events for some of the most popular video management software platforms from Milestone, Genetec, and Network Optics. This supports integrators in creating vertical and customer-specific end-to-end solutions that leverage video analytics data across systems and departments. “Systems integrators are tasked with providing highly customized solutions to their unique client base and, with our platform, apps from our store, and integration tools they can build these specialized solutions – everything from oil flare monitoring in the energy sector to patient fall detection in healthcare facilities,” said Madhav Varma, Vice President, Product for Azena, “These improvements to our platform will streamline the deployment and management of these solutions for integrators, saving time, labor costs, and costly truck rolls.” Systems integrators are increasingly using Artificial Intelligence-enabled video analytic apps to solve complex customer pain points, as well as for providing traditional safety and security solutions. New tools enable no-code integration into major VMS platforms for streamlined event management. Other enhancements improve the usability and efficiency of the platform for systems integrators when managing large numbers of devices and apps. With more than 100 unique apps available in the growing Azena Application Store, integrators can select one or more of those apps or develop and upload their own apps that can be visible and sold only to their customers. This enables highly specialized integrators to further protect their unique approaches to certain vertical markets or other specific customer needs while still leveraging the Azena platform as part of their tailored solution. The enhancements to the platform now offer a variety of options for deployment and maintenance, from fully remote connections to new support for installations that run on a completely closed network, such as critical infrastructure installations or remote sites with little to no internet connectivity. With new project management features, integrators can assign app licenses to specific customers or projects. Camera installations can be more easily segmented by customer, project, and location, and access rights for specific users can be assigned and managed based on projects. This provides integrators with better oversight and control over their projects and digital twin data from their installations can also be used in other systems such as project management or building management software. Enhanced device management on the Azena platform enables integrators to more easily perform batch updates to many devices with the same settings as well as backup and restore or replicate those settings to multiple devices. Integrators can now also negotiate directly with app developers on the platform for volume pricing or other discounts and additional app support. App licensing for customer demos or pilot projects can also be easily extended within the Azena platform.

Milestone Systems Reveals Plans to Bring its Pioneering Video Technology Beyond the Traditional Security Market

Milestone Systems, a leading provider of open platform video management software, today, has unveiled plans to bring its pioneering video technology beyond the traditional security market with new specialized solutions, including a special healthcare solution. Speaking at the 2022 Milestone Partner Summit (MIPS) in Dubai, Milestone Systems’ CEO Thomas Jensen revealed details of how the provider of XProtect, an open-platform video management software, aims to empower people, businesses and societies with data-driven video technology software that serves end users both in and beyond the traditional video security industry. As part of this exciting growth strategy, the Danish-headquartered company – which surpassed 1,000 employees worldwide last year – aims to more than double its annual turnover within the next five years. Milestone’s CEO also committed to continue to strengthen the company’s position as a responsible technology organization. “We are preparing to revolutionize our industry by using data-driven video technology both in and beyond security.” said Jensen. New Specialized Solutions While maintaining its core safety and security video management offering, Milestone – which last year delivered a record net revenue of 1.1 billion Danish kroner – will introduce video solutions for various industries from 2023 onwards. Next year, it will launch new solutions aimed at the healthcare industry, starting with video-enabled solutions for hospitals. “We see a future in which data-driven video technology is a game-changer, that will help to make the world a better place for us all,” Jensen told the gathering of Milestone’s top partner resellers, system integrators, security specialists, and service providers. Jensen outlined how XProtect, which can be integrated with the widest choice of devices and other security solutions, currently enables people to understand the world they see by viewing recorded or real-time video data. Through the responsible use of data-driven video technology, XProtect will soon be able to predict events before they happen, which will further enhance Milestone’s offering in and beyond security. As Milestone continues to invest in strengthening its core platform and XProtect software, the company aims to serve as a blueprint for how other leading technology firms can engage in responsible business practices that benefit societies at large. “The technology industry has been a bit like the wild west. During the last 20 years, technology companies became immensely powerful, maybe too powerful,” said Thomas Jensen, “The result was techlash – a backlash against technology companies with societies demanding that their power be regulated. “Techlash was a warning – the ‘wild west’ is over. The consequence for us is that current and future generations have very different expectations of technology companies than just five years ago. That’s the next industry challenge; we call it responsible technology.” Strong Ethical Behavior Milestone, which celebrates its 25th anniversary next year, has always had strong ethical behavior as part of its DNA. Jensen noted that Milestone co-authored the Copenhagen Letter in 2017, a declaration calling on tech companies to put people first when designing and using technology. This commitment was then incorporated into Milestone’s End User Licensing Agreements. Thomas said, “Looking ahead, we want people to feel safe knowing that they can trust our technology. Together with our partners, we will lead the way to strengthen our commitment to responsible technology by introducing further initiatives and putting greater focus on how we develop technology and how our customers use our technology.” Reflecting on Milestone’s ambitious growth strategy, Thomas Jensen highlighted how the company has broken new boundaries in the past. “Together with our partners and a handful of other pioneering technology companies, we helped to define modern video surveillance. We helped lead the transformation from analog to IP technology in the safety and security industry,” he said. “Looking ahead, we are preparing to revolutionize our industry again by using data-driven video technology both in and beyond security,” he said, “Together with our partners, our role is to deliver business outcomes – which is about focusing on the value we deliver to our customers – that will help make societies more productive.” Milestone Systems is a leading provider of open platform video management software; technology that helps the world see how to ensure safety, protect assets and increase business efficiency. Milestone enables an open platform community that drives collaboration and innovation in the development and use of network video technology, with reliable and scalable solutions that are proven in more than 500,000 installations worldwide. Founded in 1998, Milestone is a stand-alone company in the Canon Group.

Dallmeier Shows Integration at the Milestone Partner Summits in October 2022

Panomera® camera for Milestone XProtect® VMS users: As many ‘virtual PTZs’ as you like Dallmeier is a gold sponsor at this year’s Milestone Partner Summits (MIPS) in Dubai (11-13 October) and Minneapolis (24-26 October). Interested Milestone partners can find out more about the German manufacturer’s Panomera® and Domera® camera systems and the use of the systems with Milestone XProtect® video management software at the Dallmeier booth With the patented Panomera® cameras, the images from up to seven detail sensors and one overview sensor are intelligently combined in a camera system to form a high-resolution overall image of the object space. This eliminates the need for time-consuming and confusing switching between camera perspectives and unnecessary searches on building and environment maps. The number of cameras required as well as the number of screens to be observed is reduced many times over. XProtect® operators can now open and arrange all ‘submodules’ as often as they like via the user interface and zoom in on any number of areas within the submodules at the same time. At the same time, the high-resolution display of the overall scene is always maintained. The benefit corresponds to the combination of a powerful megapixel camera with any number of high-resolution ‘virtual’ PTZs. Perhaps the most versatile camera in the world The Dallmeier Domera® dome cameras are the German manufacturer’s answer to many problems with classic video camera systems. Among the features of the Domera® are a resolution of up to 4K, an integrated AI video analysis as well as the remotely controllable three-axis adjustment with the Dallmeier RPoD (Remote Positioning Dome) and a modular construction system with which more than 300 conceivable product variants can be realised. The adaptive IR and white light LEDs of the Dual Matrix LED ring mounted outside the bubble ensure a particularly high image quality at night. This also makes it more difficult for spiders to take hold and results in significantly fewer light reflections (e.g., from scratches). On the Milestone Marketplace, customers and partners can access the Dallmeier Panomera® Plugin and find out about the benefits of integration in Milestone XProtect®.

Fighting Intellectual Property Crime through Global Cooperation

Illicit trade is a growing threat to society as it incurs economic, societal and security costs. From counterfeiting and smuggling to the illegal sale or possession of goods and services, governments are losing billions in tax revenues, legitimate businesses are undermined, and consumers are exposed to unregulated products. To counter this threat, some 450 law enforcement officials as well as security and industry experts from 70 countries and nine organizations are meeting at the 15th International IP Crime Conference, both in person and online. INTERPOL and the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) in partnership with Underwriters Laboratories are co-hosting the three-day event (19-21 September). Amongst key topics, participants will discuss online piracy, operational and investigative support to fight IP crime globally, money laundering, pharmaceuticals – consumer health and safety, women in IP and capacity building. Global Threat of IP Crime IP crime touches all industry sectors, affecting the global economy and endangering public health. According to some estimates, the global trade in illicit pharmaceuticals alone represents more than USD 4 billion a year. “A significant challenge is too many people still think of counterfeiting and piracy as a victimless crime, but these are serious transnational organized crimes run by extensive and complex criminal enterprises,” said INTERPOL Secretary General Jürgen Stock. “INTERPOL is here to help law enforcement, and partners, gain the knowledge, skills and best practices needed to face these threats and disrupt the criminal groups making huge profits from a very real human cost,” Secretary General Stock added. Coordinated action against illicit markets Unregulated and counterfeit medicines target the most vulnerable groups in society and endanger lives. Growing consumer demand and the COVID-19 pandemic has also led to the increased sale and supply of illicit medical products from unauthorized and unregulated websites. In this context, INTERPOL coordinates regional and global law enforcement operations to help its member countries fight against illicit markets. For example, Operation Pangea XV in June 2022 resulted in the seizure of an estimated USD 11 million in illicit medicines. At the same time, law enforcement agencies shut down or removed more than 4,000 web links containing adverts for illicit products. “Close collaboration is essential to help combat illicit markets and protect valuable intellectual property. The Korean National Police Agency will be at the forefront of these coordinated efforts,” said YOON Hee Keun, Commissioner General of Korean National Police Agency. In partnership with UL, INTERPOL has developed a global online training platform, the International Intellectual Property Crime Investigators College (IIPCIC), which provides opportunities for selfpaced training and educational webinars. The interactive training platform has become an important educational tool for law enforcement and rightsholders worldwide, ensuring frontline officers have access to the necessary training and information.

Leveraging SBOMs to Advance Security and Business Priorities

SBOMs can provide visibility into a more secure future, ultimately paving the way for previously untapped business priorities and more seamless operations Organizations operate in varying lines of business and fields. However, there is one common denominator for almost every modern business: Software use. It’s reasonably safe to say that every company uses software from many different vendors. Operating systems like Windows, MacOS, Linux, iOS, and Android likely run on every one of your business computers. Applications like office suites, mobile apps, and web browsers are installed on those operating systems. Even the cloud servers we connect to are all driven by software. Much of this software is made up of other software. Developers tend to use well-tested and trusted software modules to build applications. So when you buy a software application, it likely has code in it that was not written by your software developer. While it is beneficial to the consumer to have well tested software, it also can introduce bugs and vulnerabilities. Including a Software Bill of Materials (SBoM) by software vendors allows software consumers to have a deeper and more uniform understanding of their software assets. We outlined in our recent white paper how SBoMs can help business leaders achieve their desired organizational security – keeping their data safe – and in turn, realize key business priorities such as increased security overall, through SBoMs. Apart from vulnerability management, the increased levels of transparency that come inherently with successful SBoM integration offer a world of possibilities into other ways your business can be transformed, while prioritizing a more secure future. Across all functions, the additional insight SBoMs provide help improve decision making around the external businesses with which your organization engages – and increased accountability makes for a more secure supply chain with more evenly distributed risk. The added accountability and visibility also creates a more reliable service for clients that could help to mitigate financial losses from outages. From an organizational outlook, mitigated financial losses make the business, as a whole, more efficient because of the reduction of unplanned and unscheduled work. Through increased visibility – provided by SBoMs – organizations will be able to better protect themselves from cyber threats and vulnerabilities and will have increased lineof-sight into software utilized across the entirety of the business. This is even true for businesses that are traditionally more siloed, as leaders are now able to be more proactive and unearth untapped competitive advantages.
