FLIR Systems, Inc. is bringing out six test and measurement products later this year, including two digital multimeters and a clamp meter that feature FLIR’s IGM™ (Infrared Guided Measurement). Powered by the FLIR Lepton® microcamera thermal core, the FLIR DM166 and FLIR DM285 digital multimeters and the FLIR CM275 clamp meter feature a built-in screen to show heat caused by electrical faults allowing professionals to efficiently test and troubleshoot electrical, electro-mechanical, and heating, ventilation, and cooling (HVAC) systems. These thermal imaging products offer the added benefit of visualizing heat and highlighting temperature anomalies on a built-in display. Whether facing cluttered wires, complex panels, or clogged condenser coils, IGM guides users without requiring any direct contact with the test site, increasing both speed and user safety. The new products include: FLIR DM285: The 18-function DM285 ($699.99) is FLIR’s most advanced digital multimeter, measuring temperatures up to 400 degrees Celsius. Along with IGM, the FLIR DM285 features onboard storage for measurements and images, as well as wireless connectivity to streamline the inspection process and simplify data collection, sharing, and reporting. FLIR CM275: FLIR’s newest, most advanced 600-amp AC/DC clamp meter ($699.99) offers IGM and a wide range of measurement functions. It also includes a narrow jaw, built-in worklights, and a screen that’s more than 40 percent larger than the previous model. FLIR DM166: FLIR’s most affordable digital multimeter and thermal imager combination, the FLIR DM166 ($499.99) features broad multimeter test functions, and the flexibility for use in both high- and low-voltage applications. Latest PTZ camera combines self-learning video analytics and infrared technology for advanced performance. The Avigilon H4 IR PTZ combines Avigilon patented self-learning video analytics with zoomable infrared (IR) technology to provide broad coverage and exceptional image quality in a range of lighting conditions and environments. Using its built-in self-learning video analytics, it can detect and alert users of a person or vehicle of interest. In addition, with tape drive data transfer rates of up to 900 MB per second, or more than 3.24 TB of data an hour per drive, LTO-8 systems allow large files to be transferred more quickly. LTO-8 also includes a new format feature that allows customers to increase the capacity of the latest LTO generation 7 cartridges by up to 50 percent to store 22.5 TB of enterprise data. To balance the need for HD surveillance and corresponding storage and bandwidth cost, and to keep pace with the development from H.264 to H.265, Uniview spends enormous efforts to exploit HEVC coding standard, and finally invented the patent coding technique U-Code. The combination of U-Code and H.265 is the unique technology – Ultra 265. Ultra 265 is an end to end solution which can save up to 95% storage space and 75% storage cost, bringing great convenience to users. Unlike conventional video compression technologies which tries to reduce storage costs by sacrificing resolution and frame rate indiscriminately, U-Code chooses to use ‘IRP’ (Intelligent Region Perception) to detect motion in each frame. Hence, scenes containing interesting information could be preserved while the other relatively static area such as lawns, white walls could be squeezed to save storage. In order to reduce bandwidth, U-Code stretches GOP (Group of pictures). Meanwhile, it uses V.I. (virtual I frame) to ensure that media has a key frame that contains critical information so that the NVR can run the frame accurate search and quick playback – this technology is called EF tech, i.e., ‘Enhanced Frame.’ By combining U-Code and H.265, Ultra 265 can squeeze up to 95% bandwidth and storage space. Ultra 265 – brings great benefits to customers Under the same configuration, Ultra 265 costs only one hard disk to store the same video record which needs four hard disk under H.264, saving 75% storage cost. Customers would benefit from both storage cost and deployment cost from Ultra 265. Moreover, Ultra 265 retains the image quality enhancement brought by H.265, reduces the image distortion caused by code compression to a great extent, optimizes image blur, trailing smear and rough of stroke edge, and improves the accuracy of VCA. Besides, Ultra 265 also breaks the bottleneck of HD resolution. It enables customers to make full use of super HD surveillance products like 4K under current bandwidth and storage deployment. Smiths Detection has introduced the HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX checkpoint scanner – the first to feature the company’s proprietary CT (Computed Tomography) scanning technology. It was developed to deliver higher levels of security whilst also optimising checkpoint performance through improved productivity, higher throughput and lower costs. Being launched at Inter Airport Europe, the HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX eliminates the need to remove electronic devices and liquids from hand luggage, subject to approval from the appropriate local authorities. This will expedite screening and make the process more passenger-friendly. Simply handling fewer trays can significantly increase checkpoint throughput, while the impressive 0.2m/s belt speed and low false alarm rate also speed up the process. To minimise upgrade costs, the new scanner can be easily incorporated into existing checkpoint lanes. Integration into an advanced screening and management platform such as Smiths Detection’s Checkpoint, Evoplus, will streamline operations even further through remote screening and directed search, as well as providing access to valuable management data. Further planned enhancements for the HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX focus on the automatic detection of prohibited items such as guns and large knives, potentially meaning operators will no longer need to review every image. “The HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX is a key element in our end-to-end, state-of-the-art checkpoint solution. It uses proprietary technology to deliver a ground-breaking checkpoint scanner,” commented Tony Tielen, Vice President of EMEA for Smiths Detection, “CT is the only technology likely to meet the new C3 (and in the future C4) European standards for explosives detection systems for cabin baggage and we are delighted to be leading the way in this exciting new area.” CT scanners examine baggage contents from every angle and generate 3D images with very precise data so more accurate judgements can be made on substances within the bag. Although first used for hold baggage scanners in the early 1990s, the checkpoint environment demands something much smaller, lighter and less intrusive. Therefore it has taken time for both regulatory and technological advancements to make CT a viable option for screening cabin baggage.

Moxa announced a new firmware upgrade for its industrial Ethernet switches with major enhancements for its security functionalities. This new firmware, called Turbo Pack 3, is not only referencing the IEC 62443-4-2 cybersecurity standard, but also supports other security management features such as MAC Address and RADIUS authentication to prevent from unauthorized access, known security leaks and unknown attacks. At present, Moxa’s Din-rail switches EDS-G500E, EDS-518E/528E, and EDS-510E, and rackmount switches IKS-6726A/6728A, IKS-6728A-8PoE, IKS-G6524A, ICS-G7526A/G7528A, and ICS-G7748A/G7750A/G7752A can support the new firmware. Increased device-level security According to an ICS-CERT report, cyber attacks on the critical manufacturing sector increased by 50% from 2014 to 2015. The report noted that a lack of proper access management and network probing are among the most common network vulnerabilities. One of the key mechanisms to ensure a safe and reliable network is to strengthen device-level security. Turbo Pack 3 ensures Moxa’s switches reference the IEC 62443-4-2 standard, which provides technical security requirements and guidelines for network device suppliers and engineers. Moreover, the new firmware upgrade supports MAC authentication bypass via RADIUS server, and also fixes certain security vulnerabilities to protect the switches from malicious intrusion. Ensure network availability The firmware upgrade also supports enhancements in redundancy technologies such as V-ON, traffic management, and real-time event notifications. With these new functionalities, Moxa’s switches are able to enable higher network availability and reliability, which is crucial for mission-critical applications.

The SOC-E3N is a Photoelectric smoke detector, which is fully compatible with the majority of existing conventional systems. The SOC-E3N incorporates Hochiki’s unique high performance photoelectric smoke chamber removing the need to use ionisation detectors in the majority of applications. Building upon the highly successful design of the SLR-E3N, the SOC-E3N also features automatic sensitivity window verification (ASWV). ASWV is drift compensation technology designed to ensure that the detector is continuously operating at its optimum sensitivity. If the contamination limit is exceeded, the integral red LED will flash once every three seconds to give a visual warning. The smoke chamber can then be easily removed for cleaning or replacement. In addition, the unique design of the chamber allows smoke to enter the chamber whilst keeping out ambient light, thus reducing false alarms. ‘AFVW’ is also the Drift Compensation technology which is incorporated to ensure the detector is operating at its optimum sensitivity and therefore reducing potential false alarms, as good as ASWV.
